left back pain
left back pain causes can be many but…have you ever thought that your back pain could be a ‘cover’ for something else that needs to be dealt with in your life?
This theory of lower back pain and indeed chronic pain, isn’t new. In fact, it’s the central theme of a chronic pain theory that Dr John Sarno ‘invented’ in the 1970′s called…
Tension Myositis Syndrome
Tension refers to the pressure and tension people are under in life. This tension often gets buried deep down if we don’t deal with it (through emotional awareness).
Myositis refers to muscles but Dr Sarno also discovered that the tendons and nerves especially in the spine can also be affected too (hence the pins and needles and deadness in the leg via the sciatic nerve being affected).
Syndrome means the chronic pain condition can appear in many places in the body and not just in the back it can come in the form of migraines, headaches, knee pain, chronic fatigue, wrist pain etc.
Left Back Pain Cause-Tension Myositis Syndrome how common is it?
Many people actually have a form of tension myositis syndrome without knowing about the chronic pain condition itself.
Often sufferers don’t ‘feel’ right, they instinctively know that something somewhere is ‘wrong’ and that they’re not functioning at optimal levels.
Tension Myositis Syndrome in a Nutshell
So a left back pain cause you may not have thought of could be down to repressed emotions that are threatening to come to the surface either through a recent trauma, bereavement etc and the brain steps in and causes acute oxygen deprivation to the muscles or nerves in the spine causing severe pain.
The sufferer can think of nothing but their pain and the emotions that threatened to come out or come into awareness can remain hidden.
It’s a self protection mechanism of the brain and to by pass it simple emotional awareness techniques need to be used. Once the brain gets the message the pain syndrome stops because it doesn’t need to hide emotional pain behind a mask of pain!
