Light Therapy For Back Pain

Light Therapy For Back Pain That Works!

Finding led light therapy for pain that works can be like finding a needle in the chronic pain haystack. It IS possible though, read on to find out more…

In my previous article I discussed light therapy lamps for pain relief, in this article I’ll be discussing the benefits of heat pads and heated mattress pads for led light therapy.

In my opinion, the best light therapy for back pain comes in the form of infrared light therapy. Infrared light therapy involves instruments such as lamps or heated mattresses that emit heating, thermal infrared waves.

These infrared waves are safe and also powerful to reach down through the skin into the muscles, tendons or nerves that may be in spasm to soothe and relax them. Infrared light is so gentle and harmless in fact, that it’s used in incubators for babies. The sun emits infrared heat which we all feel on our faces and without which life on the planet would die out.

Infrared waves are the longest wavelengths that reach down deep into the body and so they’re the most effective therapy waves you can use in many pain instances.

Led Light Therapy-Pads and Cushions

As well as using light therapy lamps for pain relief, cushions, pads or heated mattresses can be excellent alternatives.

Rather than shining an infrared lamp onto the spine or other painful area you can just ‘sit it out’ and relax on a cushion, pad or infrared ‘mattress’. These are all excellent ways to heat up muscles from the ‘inside out’ as opposed to other therapies which try to soothe muscles and nerves from the ‘outside in’.

When the muscles and nerves are heated up the blood vessels open  and dilate in the painful area and muscle and nerve spasms can decrease as blood circulation is increased. This is because more oxygen becomes available to the muscles, cells and nerves through increased blood circulation. Also, the build up of waste products (from cellular anaerobic respiration during oxygen deprivation cramps) is carried away more efficiently.

Led light therapy pads and cushions therefore as well as led light therapy lamps are an excellent form of natural and non chemical pain relief.

(Please note-If you’re suffering from the common but rather unknown chronic pain condition of tension myositis syndrome, your pain relief may be only temporary. You would need to start on a long term chronic pain cure program to make a full recovery. For more information go to part one of my own lower back pain relief story).

As well as pain relief, infrared light therapy for back pain also boosts mood and energy by increasing circulation and oxygen to the brain and nervous system throughout the body.

Heating pads that aren’t infrared heating pads don’t reach down into the muscles and tissues as deeply and they just scratch the surface of the pain in many instances.

2) Infrared Saunas

As well as relieving pain, increasing circulation and energy and boosting moods, infrared saunas also have weight loss properties too! Imagine, losing weight by just sitting there, heating up from inside!  So, if you’re looking to push the boat out regarding infrared light therapy for back pain then read more on my – infrared saunas article

I use red/infrared light therapy for my skin regularly and absolutely love it. About two months ago I hurt my back and it is just constant pain, very frustrating. After reading your post, I realize that I need to use my system on my back. Here’s hoping that I’m as happy with those results as I am with the results on my skin :)

  2. Lovely blog! I am loving it!! Will come back again. I am taking your feeds also

I have an infrared sauna ( 2 person) and have loved it. But I had neck surgery a year ago ( new disks, pins and cage) and recently my bodywork guy said he read something about infrared not being safe and should only be used 10 minutes at a time. I also read a little something on the net about concern for people with fusions and disk replacements. Do you know of any thing that I could read on that or your thoughts.

Hi thanks for the question-there are, of course contraindications for infrared sauna use here is:
“Metal pins, rods and artificial joints generally reflect far-infrared waves, meaning that they do not heat up, but anyone with any type of surgical implant should consult his surgeon prior to using an infrared sauna

You certainly have been through the wars with your neck and I do hope you are recovering well.
The main bad side effects of saunas are:
Overheating (heat exhaustion and heat stroke), Dehydration, Depleting electrolytes through sweating and the effects of mobilized toxins if you don’t take care of yourself and drink enough or stay too long in there.
I hope this and ehow helps too. This advice is not meant as medical advice but is for informational and private purposes only
